Southwest Juniper Furniture

Many of our Southwest Tables are made from locally harvested New Mexico Alligator Juniper. The Alligator Juniper tree has grey bark that grows in squares that resemble the alligator scales for which it is commonly named.

The wood of this special tree has marvelous character in its grain lines. It is native to the high mesa regions of New Mexico and Arizona with a few in Texas and California. There are very few stands of these trees. They are not endangered, but they are fairly rare. The trees have been known to live for as long as 2500 years, can grow to heights of 65 feet and can reach a diameter of over 7′.

All of the southwest dining pieces that you see on our website are true works of art. The artisan that creates these beautiful one of a kind pieces takes great care in harvesting the wood from the Gila National Forest in Southwestern New Mexico. The wood comes from either standing dead or fallen dead trees only which have been dead for many years and have been naturally dried. A good portion of these types of trees are taken and sold for firewood.
